I started Teach Seniors Technology after seeing the same thing over and over while volunteering at assisted living facilities and helping my own grandparents with their devices. Seniors weren't struggling because technology is hard. They were struggling because nobody had the patience to sit down and actually explain it to them.
"My kids sigh when I ask for help."
"I don't want to bother anyone."
"I've just given up trying."
"AI is everywhere and I have no idea how to use it."
That last one hit me hardest. Giving up. Not because it's too hard, but because no one would sit with them long enough to help. And as AI gets more sophisticated, the stakes are only getting higher. My own grandparents nearly fell for an AI-generated scam that sounded completely real. They had no framework for spotting it, and no one had ever taught them what to look for.
I grew up in San Clemente, CA, studied chemistry and economics in college while playing varsity tennis, and volunteered with nonprofits like ACEing Autism and Mission Hospital. I now work in private equity consulting in Los Angeles. But the thread through all of it has been the same: I want to help people, with real patience and real care.
TST exists to be that friend who actually explains things clearly, never sighs, and genuinely doesn't mind when you ask the same question twice. No question is silly. No question is dumb. We're here to cut through the jargon and make technology actually make sense.
